Bestia de Cardo (English Title: Beast of Cardo) is a feature film written, directed and starring actress/filmmaker Virginia Sánchez Navarro. The film was shot in 2013 in the Dominican Republic and finished production in 2014.

I just gave more thought to the title that refers to "Beast" of Cardo. Who or what is the "beast" element that is alluded to? It occurs to me that the beast reference is a metaphor for the darkness; that is already spoken of in the film's opening commentary, the darkness of self imposed obscurity and entrapment by the residents of Cardo.

In 2012 Virginia received the Personalidad Cultural Award (Cultural Personality Award), granted by the Secretary of State for Culture of the Dominican Republic, for her work onscreen and on the stage. Bestia de Cardo (Austin Film Festival 2014, Cinequest Film Festival 2015, Festival de Cine Mix Mexico 2015) is her first feature film as a director.
